VOGLIBOSE

Voglibose belongs to the anti-diabetic group of medicines called alphaglucosidase inhibitors used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus. It is a prescription medicine for type 2 diabetes/ non-insulin-dependent diabetes when diet and exercise alone cannot control their blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes symptoms include lack of energy, tiredness, frequent urination, excess thirst, dry mouth, blurry vision, constant hunger, weight loss, and itchy skin.

VOGLIBOSE works by inhibiting the intestinal enzymes responsible for breaking complex sugars into simple sugars like glucose. Thereby, it helps in preventing blood glucose levels from rising immediately after meals.

Common side-effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence (gas), skin reactions, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting are exercised. Sudden stopping without consulting the doctor may lead to increased blood glucose levels. Avoid taking for pregnant or breast feeding women unless prescribed and it should not be given to children. Avoid alcohol consumption as it might increase side-effects.

Uses : Type-2 diabetes mellitus

Warnings: should not be given to the patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), intestine ulcer or partial intestinal obstructions, intestinal obstruction and chronic disorders with disorders of digestion or absorption, with conditions that may deteriorate as a result of increased gas formation in the intestine.

Dose adjustment may be needed in patients with liver impairment/liver disease. Consult the doctor if there is liver impairment or any concerns regarding this. VOGLIBOSE should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment/kidney disease.

DRUG-DRUG INTERACTION

Interact with antidiabetics (metformin, insulin), pain killers (aspirin), thyroid hormone (levothyroxine), anti-HIV drugs (zidovudine), asthma medicine (theophylline), and blood thinners (warfarin).

Adults can take 0.2 mg of voglibose three times a day, right before each meal. Voglibose 0.2 mg or OD Tablets 0.2 mg will be taken orally three times daily, immediately before each meal. It can be taken with or after food with a glass of water.

Diet & Lifestyle changes recommended

  • Include foods rich in healthy carbohydrates and fiber, fruits, whole grains, and vegetables in the diet.
  • Try eating food at regular intervals. Do not skip meals. Also, try not to overeat.
  • Follow a healthy diet and walk for at least 45minutes to compliment treatment with VOGLIBOSE.
  • Maintain a healthy weight by exercising regularly.
  • Rest properly, avoid stress by doing meditation or yoga
